When you become part of Lived Experience Australia, you're stepping into something meaningful. Your membership strengthens our collective voice and helps us advocate for the changes that matter most to people navigating mental health experiences across the country.

We've built this organisation on a simple truth: those who live these experiences every day are the experts in their conditions, they understand what needs to change. Your membership means we can speak with confidence and clarity when we address the issues affecting our community, whether that's in meetings with policymakers, submissions to inquiries, or conversations with service providers who need to hear directly from us.

As a member, you'll stay connected through our monthly e-News Alert, keeping you informed about the work we're doing and the issues emerging across the mental health landscape. Our website documents our activities and advocacy efforts, so you can see exactly how we're using our collective voice. You'll also have direct email access to information about mental health matters as they unfold, because staying informed shouldn't feel like detective work.

Membership is free and open to anyone who shares our commitment to lived experience leadership. That includes people currently experiencing or who have experienced mental ill-health or distress themselves. It includes carers, family members, and kin whose lives have been shaped by supporting someone through their mental health journey, whether you're a parent, partner, sibling, friend, or chosen family. And it includes allies from across the sector: clinicians, peer workers, researchers, advocates, and anyone genuinely invested in transforming mental health through the wisdom of lived experience.

This isn't about chalking up membership numbers. It's about building the collective power we need to drive real change from the ground up.

The private mental health sector in Australia serves millions of people every year, yet consumers and carers remain vastly underrepresented in the decisions that shape our care. As the peak body for this part of the mental health sector, we're at the tables where private hospitals develop new models of care, where insurers decide what treatments they'll cover, and where regulators set safety standards because someone needs to ask the questions that only lived experience can ask.

That work takes resources and independence. We don't accept funding that compromises our ability to speak truth which means we rely on people like you to keep this advocacy strong.

Every dollar you contribute helps us amplify the voices the sector needs to hear. We use donations to fund submissions to government inquiries, to attend crucial meetings where policy gets written, to maintain communications that keep our community connected, and to build the evidence base that proves what we already know from experience. All donations over two dollars are tax deductible, and we'll send you a receipt if you include your email address. We don't like to think of this as charity - it's essential work and your donation is an investment in achieving the best outcomes for those with lived-living experience, their family members, carers and supporters.

Lived Experience Australia acknowledges the Traditional Owners of all the lands on which we undertake our advocacy.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We also recognise all those with lived experience of mental ill-health. We acknowledge that we can only provide leadership in systemic advocacy through valuing, respecting, and drawing upon their lived experience expertise and knowledge.

We acknowledge their enormous contribution to our work.
